Why hosts choose Erasmus+ over job boards

Six reasons European companies use Piktalent to bring in their next intern cohort instead of posting a vacancy.

    Free for verified hosts

Hosting an Erasmus+ intern is free. The EU programme funds the trainee's grant, accommodation and travel — you contribute the workplace, mentor and tasks.

    Pre-screened at source

Every candidate is endorsed by their VET school or university — qualifications, motivation and CEFR English level verified before they reach your shortlist.

    200+ partner institutions

Direct line into VET schools and universities across 30+ European countries — Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, Poland, the Nordics and Baltics.

    Paperwork handled end-to-end

Learning Agreement, training plan, insurance evidence and certificate of attendance — drafted, collected and stored by your Piktalent coordinator.

    Shortlist in 5–10 working days

Brief on Monday, candidate calls by the following Friday. Built on the same coordination backbone that ships thousands of placements per year.

    Pipeline to long-term hire

≈30% of our hosted interns are offered a long-term role at the end of the placement. No conversion fees, no restrictions, no recruiter clauses.

What we expect from a great host company

Hosting is free, but it isn't passive. The best placements share three things.

    Assign one workplace mentor

A single point of contact in your team owns the intern's onboarding, weekly 1:1 and end-of-placement evaluation.

    Run a structured training plan

We provide a Learning Agreement template aligned to ESCO competencies — usually 35–40h/week of meaningful tasks, not coffee runs.

    Provide a safe workplace

Standard EU H&S compliance, plus equipment access. Insurance is provided by the sending institution and verified by Piktalent.

"Piktalent shortlisted three marketing interns within 10 working days. We hired one and offered her a junior role four months later."

    Host-company questions, answered

Is hiring an Erasmus+ intern free for the host company?+

Yes. Hosting Erasmus+ interns through Piktalent is free for European host companies. The Erasmus+ programme funds the intern's grant.

What sectors do Piktalent's interns come from?+

IT, marketing, business, hospitality, engineering, design, healthcare, education, and creative industries.

    How long do internships last?+

From 2 to 12 months. The Erasmus+ standard is 2–6 months; longer placements are possible for self-funded participants.

Do we need to pay the intern a salary?+

It depends on the host country. Erasmus+ interns receive an EU grant that contributes to living costs, but any host-side stipend is governed by local labour law. Germany requires minimum wage for voluntary internships over 3 months; France mandates a monthly gratification for placements over 2 months; Spain and Portugal currently have no general legal obligation. We confirm the applicable rules with you at the briefing stage so the placement is fully compliant.

What paperwork do we need to handle?+

Piktalent prepares the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement and supporting documents. The host company signs the agreement and provides a workplace mentor.

Can we keep the intern as a long-term hire?+

Yes. About 30% of placements lead to a long-term offer. There are no fees or restrictions when converting an Erasmus+ intern to a permanent hire.

How quickly can an intern start?+

From signed brief to first day on site is typically 6–10 weeks: 5–10 working days for the shortlist, 1–2 weeks for interviews and selection, then 4–6 weeks for the Learning Agreement, accommodation and travel.

Which European cities have the strongest pool of interns?+

Sending pools are strongest in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, France, Poland and the Baltics. Hosting demand is highest in Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands.
