Business Internships in Europe & the USA

Piktalent organises Erasmus+ business internships in finance, consulting, sales, HR, operations and international trade. Placements range from boutique consultancies and growing startups to multinationals with regional headquarters — each matched to the participant's specialisation and academic level. Compared to a finance-only or consulting-only placement, a Piktalent business mobility typically rotates the intern across two functions (e.g. operations + sales, or finance + HR), producing 2–4 portfolio deliverables instead of one narrow workstream.

    What is a business internship?

A business internship is a supervised work placement in a corporate or commercial environment where students contribute to real projects — market analysis, financial models, B2B sales pipelines, HR onboarding flows or operations dashboards. Erasmus+ business mobilities are governed by a Learning Agreement co-signed by the sending HEI/VET, the host and the intern.

Independent applicants follow the same path on a self-funded basis. Business interns typically gain hands-on experience with at least one ERP, CRM or BI platform (Salesforce, HubSpot, SAP, Power BI or Tableau), produce two to four deliverables of professional quality, and leave with a structured reference letter and Europass Mobility document.

    Decision framework

Is a business internship the right fit?

Business is the right hub when the participant's degree is broad-economic or management — and the host role is operations, finance, sales, HR or strategy rather than a single specialism.

    Choose business internships if…

    • Degree is in business administration, economics, finance, management, HR or international trade.
    • Participant wants exposure to corporate processes, KPIs and stakeholder management.
    • Host can be a consultancy, finance team, SSC, B2B sales org or HR function.
    Operator's perspective

What separates a generic business placement from a credible one

Business is the broadest internship field — and the easiest to mis-scope. These are the patterns we see in placements that produce a real CV-grade outcome rather than 'general support'.

A defined sub-function beats 'business operations'

We refuse host briefs that say only 'business support'. Every placement must commit to a sub-function (FP&A, AP/AR, RevOps, BD, HR Ops, supply chain) so the Learning Agreement, mentoring and Europass output are coherent.

Spreadsheet fluency is still the biggest predictor of success

Hosts in finance, consulting and ops consistently rank intermediate Excel/Sheets (XLOOKUP, pivot tables, simple modelling) above any single platform skill. We pre-screen on this before shortlisting.

Dual-language profiles are over-indexed in SSCs

Shared-Service Centres in Lisbon, Krakow and Barcelona are the single largest source of paid extensions for our business interns, and they recruit by language pair (DE/EN, FR/EN, NL/EN). We tag participants by language pair to access these flows.

Consulting placements need a written deliverable

A consulting internship without a named written output (a market sizing, a pricing memo, a diagnostic deck) rarely converts to a credible CV line. We require hosts to commit to at least one signed deliverable up front.

Sales internships work best with a paid component

Inside-sales roles where the intern gets credited bookings or a small variable component drive much higher motivation and learning velocity. Where allowed under Erasmus+ rules, we encourage hosts to add a symbolic performance bonus.
