Full story

I worked in a hostel in Barcelona for three months, from August 1st to November 1st, and it was a lifetime experience for me. From the beginning, I felt supported—the staff and my trainer were very helpful, and the other interns I worked with also made everything easier. The atmosphere was amazing, and I think that came from a mix of the city itself and the vitality of the team in the hostel.

Having breakfast and accommodation provided was a big financial help, and receiving pocket money every month also made a real difference. What made this experience unique is that we lived together with the interns in the hostel, so it became my workplace and my home at the same time. Four interns shared one room, which was acceptable for me, and we became quite flexible with each other. We enjoyed each other’s company, and it honestly helped me feel more comfortable and connected.

The hostel itself had a kitchen, a bar, and a rooftop, and the rooms had their own bathrooms. Most guests were young people, so it was easy to meet new friends, and the bar was a perfect place for that. The part I enjoyed the most was providing information about the city and recommending nice places and restaurants to visit. That made me feel useful and confident, because I was helping people have a better experience in Barcelona.

At the same time, I also noticed some disadvantages. In some cases, too much responsibility was put on interns, more than they should have had. In my opinion, this was mostly because the management should have been more precise and efficient. Still, we were given the freedom to make changes in our schedule or ask for days off, and the manager was pretty flexible about it, which helped a lot.

Barcelona itself left me with a really good impression. For me, it is one of the most wonderful places in Europe, with its own culture and tradition, gorgeous cuisine, and amazing nightlife. And what I will always remember is Gaudí—his artworks truly amazed me and made the city feel even more beautiful and fascinating. When I look back, I feel genuinely grateful for these unforgettable three months.
