Applying for an English teaching internship in Spain was an exciting step for me, and from the very beginning, the process felt clear and well supported. The application itself was straightforward, and I was especially grateful for the help of the Piktalent team. Nadia Sousa, in particular, was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful throughout the entire process, always making sure I understood each step.
As a U.S. citizen, I was able to complete the visa process relatively smoothly by applying in person. Piktalent provided all the necessary documentation on their side, which made a big difference. From interviews to obtaining the visa and finally arriving in Spain, everything went according to plan, allowing me to focus on preparing for the experience rather than worrying about logistics.
I was placed in Igualada, a municipality in the province of Barcelona, which turned out to be the perfect balance. Living in a smaller, quieter town gave me a strong sense of community, while still allowing easy access to Barcelona on weekends and during breaks. I was assigned to two different schools, where I felt welcomed and quickly integrated into the teaching environment.
My role as a teaching assistant was very hands-on. I worked with small groups of students in the classroom, which proved to be an effective way to support learning and build strong connections with them. Thanks to my previous experience teaching in Colombia, I already had a good foundation in Spanish, which helped me overcome language barriers and made daily interactions smoother.
One of the most memorable moments of the internship was being allowed to choreograph two dances at my secondary school for a Christmas concert attended by families from across Igualada. Being trusted with this responsibility made me feel truly valued as part of the school community.
Looking back, patience was key throughout both the visa and placement process. Things don’t happen overnight, but arriving with an open mind and a genuine desire to teach makes all the difference. I received solid training both before and during the internship, which helped me feel confident and prepared.
Overall, I had an extremely positive experience and would highly recommend Piktalent to anyone considering an internship abroad. It was a rewarding professional and personal journey — one I would happily do again.
